NACRA Sevens Men's & Women's Playing Schedules
The Playing schedules for the Men's and Women's 2009 Sevens have now been released. To view go to the "Events" page.
Reigning Caribbean men's champions Guyana start the tournament against an unknown Guadeloupe side, a team that usually performs with credibility at the annual Trinidad Sevens. In the Women's tournament Mexico, participating in their inaugural international rugby tournament take on an ever improving Cayman team, in the first women's game. With the top 3 teams from the Pool A and the top 2 from Pool's B and C guaranteed to move forward to the knockout stage on Day 2 in the men's championship, there some eagerly awaited matches.
In Pool A, while Guyana are favourites to top the Pool, they will face stiff competition from both Bahamas and Cayman, teams who have recently begun to groom players for the West Indies Sevens Team and have witnessed significant development via their youth programs and academies. In Pool B hosts Mexico will have to be on top of their game if hey are to topple Trinidad & Tobago, a team that has always performed well at the seven a-side game, while in Pool C their is a much awaited clash between Bermuda and Jamaica, the latter not competing in 2009, but who always pose a threat.
The women's tournament is wide open. Guyana, the 2008 Caribbean champions will start as favourites while Cayman will fancy their chances of upsetting the form book. Mexico and Bahamas remain pretty much a mystery, with both participating in such an event for the first time.
